Pale Chalice – Afflicting the dichotomy of trepid creation

No Post Rock influences. No Shoegazing. No layered guitars. No clean vocals. No overblown production. No compromises. No light. No hope.  This pretty much sums up what Afflicting the dichotomy of trepid creation by Pale Chalice is all about. They’re keeping up where bands like Darkthrone or Gorgoroth left of a long time ago and release four beasts of pure, hateful and raw Black Metal.

And, as you might assume since I mention Darkthrone and Gorgoroth as Pale Chalice - Afflicting... coverreferences, this shit is really good. Pale Chalice are far from stupid “blast beat only”-Black Metal, instead they show great song writing skills and suprise with really good (and not inflationary used) riffs. The moment at minute 3:03 of Caressed by a feeble flame, when this certain riff beginns – it’ll make you run to your local church, piss on the altar and the cross and afterwards burn that whole thing down. Well, maybe you’ll just notice that there’s an awesome riff on your stereo and have another sip of beer, who knows? The lyrics are quite abstract and metaphoric, but still so full of hate. So no whiny suicidal Black Metal here, folks.

Like I mentioned, the production is raw, but heavy. Face ripping guitar sound, powerful drumming and aggressive, no prisoners taking vocals blast all the fancy, modern attemps of Black Metal straight out of your head so you’ll think it’s 1993 again. Totally recommend.
