Floating Veins
SYNDROME Review

Through certain sounds, thoughts or feelings manifest, and that is where the magic of music begins. Mathieu Vandekerckhove of Amenra and the Church of Ra has created a transcendental musical voyage called Syndrome that has manifested the new album Floating Veins. It’s a very fitting title, because when I listen to this album, it makes me think about the genesis of humanity or the changing of seasons. What makes me think about the changing of seasons is the way Mathieu uses sounds to make you feel cold or warm at certain moments. This album has no vocals for the most part, but will speak to you on so many levels. With each second of Floating Veins, a new story will unfold. Let’s talk about the title track for a minute: “Floating Veins” starts off with a tiny drone that begins to rise into the clouds, where it hovers over your wonderment, putting your mind in a space of peace. Then all of a sudden you will find yourself in a wind tunnel, only to have a killer riff give you the power to awaken your 3rd eye. The song “Absence” is a giant castle of vibrating, distorted drone that pulsates in a way that creates an awesome rhythm, but it’s when the drums come in that the otherworldly, ghostly sounds make their presence known. With the tune “Wolf ” Syndrome creates a cave of whispers that then becomes an ocean of cold drone, but within these elements you can still hear your heartbeat pounding. Floating Veins is the kind of instrumental that is full of soul and is not over-thought in any way. It would be so epic to have this album playing right I after smoked a big joint, and I could look up to the stars to ponder what’s coming next. I guess you could say that Syndrome has created an album that could be the soundtrack to whatever your imagination comes up with!…Purchase the CD Format here & the vinyl format here.
