Rather than fill our Instagram feed with people’s bad selfies and what they cooked for bae (ok, I do follow this one though…), I love that Instagram has become an online gallery, where artists can curate collections of their work in a public space. Today I’d like to showcase a self-portrait artist, @angelunaluna, whose photos capture my attention instantly with their stark emotion. She uses her body as a sculptural platform, taking the idea of a self-portrait to a whole other level by incorporating her face into detailed works of still-life performance art. These portraits are at once though-provoking, creepy and humorous, with an ability to make me feel uncomfortable in the best way possible. She communicates complex ideas in a beautifully simple way. These are brilliant portrayals of the human condition, and so this week @angelunaluna is our favorite Instagram!
