CVLT Nation Captures ROADBURN Day Four

Text and Photos: Gemma Shaw

Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, made up of the legend Scott Kelly (Neurosis) and Sanford Parker (Buried at Sea). Unsuspecting listeners get a brutal assault on their senses. The low end is felt internally and externally. It engulfs the green room like a blanket.

Jakob. Their moving and thoughtful post rock is captivating. Their hooks catch me unawares and leave me wanting more.

After their somber yet beautiful acoustic set the day before, AmenRa play a more energetic show at the Afterburner. They play a great set with some of my favorites, waking me up and putting me in the mood for Neurosis, who are up next!

??????????

Neurosis.
How can this performance be better than their show last night? By starting with ‘To crawl under one’s skin’ and ‘Locust star,’ of course. And playing very old Neurosis thrash punk songs, like ‘Double edged sword’ from their second album The Word as Law, which I have never seen live before! It was a rare treat that I will remember forever.

??????????

Buried at Sea.
How to follow up Neurosis…it’s a daunting task and the room is sparse in comparison, but Buried at Sea prove to be a fitting end to low end head banging doom. One of my highlights of the weekend.

Roadburn is over too soon; it’s something that many look forward to all year, and in what seems like an instant, it is over for another year. We are looking forward to the announcements for next year already!

Indeed, B.I.G.! Mind blowing experience. Definitely top shelf material in an overwhelming line-up.

No mention of Blind Idiot God? They were one of the few bands that absolutely took me by surprise, such a great set and stood out as being very different.
