CVLT Nation Captured ROADBURN Day Two

Text and Photos: Gemma Shaw

Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly play the first two shows of the day in the Het Patronaat. Each bringing their own blend of acoustic songs, its a chilled out way to begin the day. Both perform moving sets to a packed house.

With The Dead.
Everyone puts the comparisons of With The Dead’s members previous bands, Cathedral and Electric Wizard. It’s tough to leave the stigma of such powerhouses of the doom genre. Doom it is, slow and dirty, performed by experts of their field. Lee Dorian may seem more subdued than he normally was with Cathedral, but that could be more of a response to WITD’s music.

G.I.S.M.
This is their first show in 14 years and their first show outside of Japan. It’s not a polished performance, it’s loose, it’s filthy, it’s how G.I.S.M should be. Filled with energy, it’s a long awaited performance for die hard fans.

Being a fan of Esoteric, I was looking forward to seeing Greg Chandler’s side project Lychgate. They played black metal to a packed out green room, bringing along a full sized church organ.

Pentagram
are the headliners today, and Bobby is on fine form, the crazy eyes are out and the living legend oozes charisma. From his sexy hip thrusts to the air guitar playing, its another captivating performance. Pentagram sound tighter than ever and create a good time vibe. It’s one of the highlights of the weekend.
